Bonalu is one of the most significant folk festivals of Telangana, celebrated during the Ashada Masam (July–August) in honor of Goddess Mahakali. The festival is observed as an offering of gratitude to the Goddess for protecting communities from diseases and ensuring prosperity. Women, dressed in traditional attire, carry decorated pots known as Bonam, filled with cooked rice, jaggery, milk, and neem leaves, to local temples as sacred offerings. The vibrant celebrations include colorful processions, traditional drum performances, the energetic dance of Pothuraju, cultural rituals, and devotional ceremonies. Across Mahabubabad District, Bonalu reflects the deep spiritual beliefs, cultural pride, and communal harmony of the people, attracting thousands of devotees every year.
