While the world-famous Sammakka-Saralamma Jatara (Asia’s largest tribal congregation) peaks in neighboring Mulugu, Mahabubabad plays a pivotal and sacred role in its commencement. Every two years, the magnificent Pagididdaraju procession begins with intense devotional fervor from the secluded temple at Ponugondla village in the Gangaram mandal of Mahabubabad. Driven by Koya tribal priests of the Penaka clan, this grand walk escorts Lord Pagididdaraju (the consort of the deity Sammakka) over 60 kilometers through dense forests to the sacred altars. Beyond this major event, the local Lambada hamlets consistently come alive during regional celebrations.
